Role Responsibilities
The Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA) division/Tax Services/Information Services branch is looking for a full-time Tax Information Officer to join their team!
The Tax Information Officer is the first point of contact for many clients interacting with Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA). The Tax Information Officer helps taxpayers, businesses, representatives and members of the public obtain accurate information, understand program requirements, resolve account enquiries and take the actions needed to meet their obligations or exercise their rights. This results in TRA clients and the public having a better understanding of TRA and its programs as well as ensuring fair and equitable treatment of all clients.
Responsibilities include:
- Promote, educate and deliver timely high-quality services to meet the needs of program stakeholders.
- Respond to telephone, electronic, written and other client enquiries regarding programs administered by Tax and Revenue Administration.
- Provide information on program eligibility, registration, filing, reporting, payment, refund and documentation requirements using approved information and established procedures.
- Educates and promotes online services such as the Alberta.ca Account, Tax and Revenue Administrations Client Self-Service (TRACS), and other online delivery offerings.
- Perform routine calculations, reconciliations and verifications to identify discrepancies and ensure account information is accurate.
- Process authorized account, registry and financial transactions in accordance with established controls and procedures.
- Administer reassessments, refunds, replacement payments, stop-payments and other corrective actions in accordance with established procedures.
- Identify outstanding returns, information, documentation, instalments or account balances during client interactions.
- Assist clients in identifying and correcting incomplete, inconsistent or incorrectly reported information.
- Record client information, enquiries, explanations, actions and outcomes in the appropriate information system.

Qualifications
Required:
- Two-year diploma in Business or a related field plus 2 years related experience; or equivalent as described below.
Equivalencies:
- Directly related education considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience.
Assets:
- Experience in a customer service-related role, responding to enquiries and delivering client-focused service.
- Ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies and procedures accurately.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and financial skills, including experience reviewing and assessing financial or account information.
- Knowledge of tax administration, applicable federal and provincial legislation, privacy requirements and Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA) programs and systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools to support communication, documentation and workflow management.
